United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

On March 1, 2003, the former U.S. Customs Service was divided into two new agencies within Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Customs inspectors, canine enforcement officers, and import specialists were merged with immigration inspectors, border patrol agents, and agriculture inspectors to create Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Customs investigators and personnel in the air and marine operations were merged with Immigration investigators, Federal air marshals, and members of the Federal Protective Service to create Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
