Highway Emergency Assistance Units Agencies
On highways and other highly congested limited access roads, these units assist motorists with disabled vehicles or vehicles involved in accidents. They also try to safely keep the flow of traffic moving around the disabled vehicle or accident. The units are usually part of each state's Dept of Transportation, but may also be operated by a private organization, such as an automobile club (AAA, CAA, RAC, and others) or a toll road, port, bridge, or tunnel authority.
