The Ford Crown Victoria was the primary police vehicle in North America from 1997 to 2011. It was replaced an all new, front wheel drive Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, based on the then new  2011 Ford Taurus, as an early 2013 model. front drive was standard, all wheel drive was an option. It shared a platform with the Ford Police Interceptor Utility, based on the Ford Explorer, that was introdiced at the same time. Pre-Production prototype had been shown by Ford in 2011, with styling based on the 2011 Taurus. The production Police Interceptor Sedan had the updated styling of the 2013 Taurus, and deliveries began to police departments in the Spring of 2012. A 365-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine was the top engine available. In 2014, a special service package of the Police Interceptor Sedan was introduced offered with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, designed for detective and administrative uses. Production of the sedan ended in March 2019.
