2011, Ford introduced a completely new Explorer as a front or all wheel
drive V-6 powered crossover. This new Explorer shares a platform with
then also new Ford
Taurus. A full police package became available for model year
2013 based on the new Explorer and was given the title Police Interceptor Utility. The Police Interceptor Utility, like the Explorer that it based on, received
an update for model year 2016 with a new front and rear end styling.
For 2016 a 3.7-liter 305-hp V-6 is standard, with a twin-turbo
3.5-liter 365-hp V-6 available as an option. AWD comes standard,
a six-speed auto is the only transmission.
