GM Police Cars - Holden
Holden Commodore is built in Australia and is sold in Australia and New Zealand. It is the favorite vehicle for use by police departments in both countries.  Rear drive, and currently powered by a Chevrolet 5.7 litre V-8 engine. Holden builds special left hand drive versions of this car for the Middle East, and are sold as the Chevrolet Lumina and Chevrolet Caprice (long wheelbase model) . A version of the Caprice is also sold in North America as the police only Caprice PPV.  Previous models Holden Commodore shared its platform with the European Opel Omega (which had been sold in the United States as the Cadillac Catera). The 2 door version of the Commodore, known as the Holden Monaro, was sold in the United States as the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO. A new Holden Commadore VE was introduced for 2006, and was the first Commadore completely designed by Holden in Austrailia, and not based on a European Opel vehicle. This Commadore VE was sold the MIddle East as the Chevrolet Lumina, in Brasil as the Chevrolet Omega, and in the United States & Canada as the Pontaic G8 (2008-2010). The Austrailian National Safety Agency Limited was planning to make a police package version of the Pontiac G8, but these plans were shelved when GM disolved the Pontiac divsion and ended the G8 in 2010. Instead, the longer wheelbase Holden Cparice was modified for the American market as the Chevrolet Caprice PPV.

A new Commadore VF is schedule for release in 2013 as an early 2014 model. GM plans on importing this new rear drive, V8 sports sedan to North America as the Chevrolet SS in the fall of 2013..
